A Virtual Training Solution for Tracked Excavator Operators

The Intellia Tracked Excavator Simulation Curriculum (also known as a digger, trackhoe, power shovel or hydraulic excavator) delivers an immersive, true-to-life experience that replicates real machine operation. From the sights and sounds to the feel of digging, advanced trenching, and demolition, each exercise mirrors real jobsite challenges. Lifelike soil interaction and accurate machine movement give trainees the practical feel they need to learn faster and work smarter.

Simulation Curriculum Features

Learning Outcomes

The Intellia Tracked Excavator Simulation Curriculum features exercises designed and validated by subject-matter experts that replicate real-world tasks such as filling trucks, loading on trailers, placing pipes, using a trenchbox, breaking up slabs of concrete, and cutting steel beams. Progressive exercises, ranging from beginner to advanced, help trainees build skill and confidence.

Key learning outcomes include:

  • Demonstrating safe basic machine operation, including proper entry, startup, and shutdown procedures, and control familiarization with joysticks, pedals, and other auxiliary equipment functions.
  • Performing core excavation tasks such as trenching, digging, placing pipes, and loading while maintaining stability
  • Executing efficient material handling techniques, including proper positioning, swinging, and dumping of materials
  • Applying advanced trenching, including digging safely within an embedded trench box.
  • Managing jobsite hazards and attachments, including recognizing and responding to common worksite risks and attaching and detaching tools such as a hammer and shear jaw

Authentic Machine Behavior

Our simulation incorporates award-winning engineering-grade machine and material behavior for the most transferable operator skills outside real equipment.

When choosing simulation training for a tracked excavator, look for features that replicate real-world operation:

  • Hydraulic Simulation: The controls respond like a real machine, with realistic relationships between joystick input and movement.
  • Puncturing holes with Hydraulic Hammer: Operators use the Hydraulic Hammer to puncture holes in concrete slabs and actively control how debris breaks and falls, just like in real life.
  • Unstable Soil: This sandy soil type behaves very differently, with much lower cohesion and a higher likelihood of cave-ins, requiring more careful excavation and planning.
  • ISO and SAE Controls: Operators switch between ISO and SAE control patterns, preparing them for any OEM system.
  • Live Attachment Change: Operators physically attach and detach tools during exercises, mirroring the challenges of actual operations.
  • Faults: Trainees safely encounter mechanical or operational faults, allowing instructors to evaluate adaptability and decision-making under pressure.
  • Lifting Tracks: Operators can lift and rotate the tracks using the bucket, accurately reproducing real-life maneuvers.
  • Track Marks: The 21-ton excavator compresses soil and leaves realistic impressions in the terrain as it moves.

Why Does It Need to Be Engineering-Grade?

Avoid creating bad habits or unsafe shortcuts that could carry over to real-world operations. High-quality simulation training ensures trainees learn correct techniques from day one. When the simulator behaves like the real machine, trainees build confidence and skills that transfer directly to the jobsite, reduce risk, save time, and reinforce safe, effective practices from the start.
