Virtual Training Solution for Rubber-Tired Gantry Operations
The Intellia Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) and Remote Operated Station (ROS) RTG Simulation Curriculums accelerate skill development by giving trainees a safe, controlled environment to practice challenging yard operations. Through targeted exercises that build correct behaviors and operational confidence, it helps operators prepare for real-world performance. High-fidelity simulation accurately replicates machine response, cable dynamics, and load behavior for deeply realistic RTG training.
RTG Curriculum: Focuses on operating the RTG from the machine cabin, reinforcing spatial awareness, control precision, and on-site operational decision-making.
ROS RTG Curriculum: Focuses on operating the same RTG remotely from a desk-based operator station, emphasizing camera-based awareness, coordination, and remote control workflows.
Simulation Curriculum Features
Learning Outcomes
The RTG curriculum features progressive exercises that help novice operators grow into safe, skilled RTG operators. Each scenario focuses on purposeful machine handling, situational awareness, and the decision-making habits that support efficient container movement in active terminals.
Key learning outcomes include:
- Applying appropriate controls to maneuver and operate the RTG based on yard conditions
- Handling 20-ft, 40-ft, and 45-ft containers while maintaining load stability
- Navigating restricted zones, including cramped lanes and closely stacked rows
- Aligning and positioning the crane while applying safe driving techniques
- Executing lifts of various types of containers with attention to load behavior
Authentic Machine Behavior
Our simulation incorporates award-winning engineering-grade machine and material behavior for the most transferable operator skills outside real equipment.
When choosing simulation training for RTG operations, look for capabilities that directly support real-world operation:
- Realistic load motion and crane response: Container loads behave naturally, requiring smooth, controlled operation, and reinforcing correct handling techniques.
- Authentic travel, steering, and positioning: Acceleration, braking, and turning reflect real RTG movement in yard operations.
- Challenging container yard environments: Confined lanes, tall stacks, and limited sightlines built into the curriculum teach realistic decision-making
Why Does It Need to Be Engineering-Grade?
Avoid creating bad habits or unsafe shortcuts that could carry over to real-world operations. High-quality simulation training ensures trainees learn correct techniques from day one. When the simulator behaves like the real machine, trainees build confidence and skills that transfer directly to the jobsite, reduce risk, save time, and reinforce safe, effective practices from the start.
Additional Learning
ROS RTG Curriculum
The ROS RTG Curriculum focuses on operating the same RTG remotely from a desk-based operator station, emphasizing camera-based awareness, coordination, and remote control workflows.
Key learning outcomes include:
- Becoming familiar with the remote operation console and using its controls with increasing confidence and precision
- Using automation features to support consistent alignment, lifting, and placement during remote operations
- Operating the crane through camera-based views while adapting to reduced depth cues, blind spots, and limited peripheral visibility
- Managing operational faults, including camera feed loss, twistlock cone issues, and system lag, with safe and steady corrective actions
When choosing simulation training for ROS RTG operations, look for capabilities that directly support real-world operation:
- Camera-based operation with real visibility limits: Lack of depth perception, blind spots, and limited viewing angles mirror real operational challenges.
- Realistic remote-operation workflows: Accurate control system modeling allows manual or automated RTG operation.
- Exposure to realistic remote faults: Prepare operators to manage unexpected situations safely.
